Making the Choice; Bringing Forth an Environmental Renaissance

How does the use of cell phones in San Francisco contribute to the disappearance of endangered mountain gorilla habitat in the Democratic Republic of the Congo? This exhibit explores how daily habits affect the global environment. The artwork in the exhibit serves as the catalyst to stimulate dialogue about seven topics affecting urban environments, including Waste Reduction, Water, Environmental Health, Transportation, Urban Design, Urban Nature, and Energy.

Making the Choice was produced by the Natural World Museum in collaboration with the City of San Francisco's Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services and the San Francisco Department of the Environment, and with the generous support of the Wattis Foundation.

Produced in association with the Natural World Museum in partnership with the U.N. Environment Programme for World Environment Day 2007, the exhibition addresses the theme of climate change from a global perspective — the melting and thawing of ice, snow and permafrost, which are environment-altering changes taking place around the world — from the Andes to the Himalayas to the melting ice caps of the Poles.

This exhibition, produced in association with the Natural World Museum in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme for World Environment Day 2008, looks at how nature strives for balance, including balancing the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. In this exhibition, we asked 27 artists from 20 countries to help us find new visions and new choices for a more balanced Earth.

This exhibition was produced in partnership with the Natural World Museum and the UN Department of Public Information. It centers on the intolerance and treatment of our Earth, and the attitudes and behavioral changes that must be made in order to protect it. The topics of global warming and environmental preservation are currently at the heart of the development agenda with the challenge of protecting our environment as a means of achieving true human security on a global scale.
