Nature's Toolbox: Biomimicry, Art and Invention

Design solutions can draw inspiration from many sources, including nature. Biomimicry is a discipline that studies nature's best ideas and imitates these designs and processes to solve human problems.

Biomimicry - also known as biomimetics, bionics, and bio-inspired design - is practiced by designers worldwide. Following in the footsteps of Leonardo DaVinci, Buckminster Fuller, and the Wright Brothers, today's biomimics are exploring nature-inspired innovation to create products and processes that are less polluting and more resource efficient.

In this exhibition, we ask 8 world-renown artists to utilize the concepts of biomimicry as inspiration for new artworks - for example, as an opportunity to explore genius and invention, or perhaps to create wildly fantastic creatures that employ the lessons that biomimicry offers.
